A simple workflow for listing dimensions

Measure, convert, label, then review

Start with the measurement source you trust most: a manufacturer drawing, supplier spec sheet, or your own caliper measurement. Convert each dimension separately, then keep the original order from the source. If the supplier gives 120 × 80 × 35 mm, convert it as length, width, and height in the same sequence instead of rearranging the numbers later.

After conversion, label the result clearly. A useful format is: Product dimensions: 4.72" L × 3.15" W × 1.38" H (12.0 × 8.0 × 3.5 cm). If you also show package dimensions, put them on a separate line. Buyers can misunderstand a listing when the product size, package size, and shipping carton size are mixed together.

Before publishing, review the generated copy against the real product. Check whether accessories, handles, lids, cables, or packaging change the usable size. For soft goods, handmade products, and manually measured items, add a short tolerance note such as “measurements are approximate” instead of implying every unit is identical.

Amazon Best Practices:

  • Always list dimensions as L × W × H
  • Include metric measurements in parentheses
  • Package dimensions affect FBA fees
  • Accuracy within ±5% is acceptable

Rounding product dimensions without misleading buyers

Use one rounding style across the listing

For most product pages, two decimal places for inches and one decimal place for centimeters are readable and precise enough. For example, 100 mm becomes 3.94 inches and 10.0 cm. Very small products may need more precision, while large furniture or packaging dimensions may be easier to read with one decimal place.

Do not round so aggressively that the converted size changes buyer expectations. A 24.6 mm part can be listed as 0.97 inches, but calling it 1 inch may be misleading if the part must fit a slot, bracket, case, or replacement component. Keep exact dimensions in the specifications area when fit matters, and use friendlier rounded language only in descriptive sentences.

Consistency matters more than decorative formatting. Use the same multiplication symbol, unit labels, and order throughout bullets, descriptions, variant tables, images, and downloadable spec sheets. If a product has several variants, place each variant’s measurements near the option name so buyers do not copy the wrong size.

How to write product dimensions in inches and metric units

E-commerce listings need dimensions that are easy for shoppers to compare and accurate enough for shipping, storage, and fit decisions. Convert mm to inches with inches = millimeters ÷ 25.4, then keep the order consistent as Length × Width × Height.

Recommended listing format

For US-facing listings, write inches first and include metric in parentheses: 10.00" × 8.00" × 6.00" (25.4 × 20.3 × 15.2 cm). For international listings, put metric first and imperial second.

Rounding and tolerance

Use two decimal places for inches, one decimal place for centimeters, and whole millimeters when a listing needs mm. If measurements are manual, state a realistic tolerance instead of over-claiming precision.

Bulk CSV workflow

Use Bulk Mode when importing multiple SKUs. Paste CSV rows, parse the products, choose the marketplace template, then copy or export the generated descriptions.

Common package values include 50 mm = 1.97 inches, 100 mm = 3.94 inches, 150 mm = 5.91 inches, 200 mm = 7.87 inches, and 254 mm = 10 inches exactly.

General marketplace listing notes

The notes below are general listing guidance, not official marketplace policy. Seller dashboards, required attributes, and category rules can change, so always review the current documentation for your account and category before publishing.

Amazon-style product detail pages

Keep product dimensions, package dimensions, and item weight separate. Use clear L × W × H labels in the product description or specifications area, and check whether your category has required size attributes before upload.

eBay-style item specifics and descriptions

Use available item specifics for structured data and repeat the same measurements in the description for human readers. If the product may ship internationally, show both metric and imperial units in a consistent order.

Shopify-style product pages and variants

For a store product page, place the most important dimensions near the buy section or specifications block. If sizes differ by color, pack count, or variant, avoid one generic size line that could apply to the wrong option.

International marketplaces and handmade goods

Metric-first copy is often easier for international buyers, while inches help US buyers understand scale. For handmade, soft, or natural products, include a measured-size range or tolerance note when variation is expected.

E-commerce Product Dimension FAQ

How do I convert product dimensions from mm to inches?

Divide each millimeter value by 25.4. Convert length, width, and height separately, then keep the same order in your listing. For example, 100 × 50 × 25 mm becomes 3.94" × 1.97" × 0.98".

Should Amazon listings show inches, centimeters, or both?

Many sellers show both inches and centimeters because it helps buyers compare size quickly, but this is general guidance only. Check the current seller documentation for your category and account before publishing.

What order should product dimensions use: length, width, height?

Use a consistent Length × Width × Height order unless your platform, feed, or category requires a different format. Label product dimensions and package dimensions separately so buyers do not confuse item size with shipping size.

Can I convert multiple SKUs at once?

Yes. Use bulk CSV mode with one product per line, then review several rows before uploading the output to a catalog feed, marketplace import tool, or product information system.

How should I round product dimensions for listings?

Use a consistent rounding style, such as two decimal places for inches and one decimal place for centimeters. Keep more precision when a part must fit another part, and avoid rounding that makes the product sound larger or smaller than it is.

Is this converter official marketplace policy?

No. The converter provides general measurement and listing-copy help. It is not official, certified, approved, or endorsed by any marketplace, and it does not guarantee listing compliance.
